The Studies in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program (SPP) is a two-year program sponsored by The Western New England Psychoanalytic Society (WNEPS.) It has been designed as a tripartite program which incorporates classroom study, supervision of cases and personal psychotherapy over the course of two years. We welcome licensed clinicians of all types who are interested in expanding their knowledge and increasing their skills.

Training

Classes meet on Tuesday nights during the academic year with two 75 minute classes. Topics will include psychoanalytic theory, beginning and ending treatments, psychopathology and child development. Case Conferences, in which students and faculty present an on-going case will be an integral part of the learning experiences. With successful completion of the two year program, a certificate in Studies in Psychotherapy is granted. Elective blocks have been built in to allow flexibility for a class to direct their studies.

Supervision of two on-going psychotherapy cases from your practice is required. These cases should be part of your practice or training. Supervision will come from SPP supervisor list and will be an individual arrangement between supervisor and therapist.

We believe that in order to be an effective psychodynamic psychotherapist, we believe that one must have experience being a patient, as well as some familiarity with one’s own unconscious processes. If you have not had this experience, we ask that you begin in a treatment prior to the start of the Program.

Admission

Admission requirements include pervious psychotherapy training and have current psychotherapy cases. You will need to be licensed in your profession in the State of Connecticut and hold professional malpractice insurance. For current psychiatry residents, you need to have completed two years of clinical training and have two ongoing psychotherapy cases. For other professions, a masters level clinical training program is required.

Fees and Tuition

The application fee is $50. Tuition is $1800 annually, payable in two installments. Supervision fees are arranged individually with each supervisor.
